Forests Protected

Maine has some of the most beautiful woods in the world, and environmental protections are in place so that there will be zero clearcutting of Maine’s untouched forests and no destruction of public lands. The Clean Energy Corridor will help protect and preserve Maine’s 17.6 million acres of forest.
- Following existing lines – Two-thirds of the connector route follows existing power lines; the lines were created to deliver hydropower to Maine a century ago
- Commercial lanes – The 53 miles of new corridor is just 54 feet wide and positioned in commercial working forests
- Small footprint – The 964 acres making up The Clean Energy Corridor will be maintained with scrub-shrub vegetation, in comparison to 400,000 acres of timber harvested in-state every year according to Maine Forest Service
- Local tourism – The project has committed $10.5 million in support of economic development and regional tourism in Western Maine
